Greenland is the world’s largest island and is home to the second largest ice sheet. It has ragged cliffs, awe-inspiring fjords, and inconceivable amounts of water, both above and below the freezing point.
Two new scientific studies of Greenland have produced mapping that shows Greenland’s ice sheet is much more vulnerable to Earth’s warming than previously thought. It also showed that Greenland has much more total ice above sea levels than experts had concluded. These new studies show that ice mass has the capability of raising sea levels by 24.3 feet, which is roughly three inches more than scientists had estimated.
