I took some time out at a fishing lodge recently in a remote corner of a place quite close to paradise. At dinner one night around a long table, there was a thought-provoking conversation centered on species and habitat conservation. Each of the guests at the table engaging the discussion and each I learned, contributing in ways large and small to the conservation of our planet.
At the table among others was Steve Liesman, best known for his work reporting economics and finance for CNBC and NBC. Liesman holds a deep regard for nature and a lifelong love of fishing. His most recent project is an effort to stem the loss of populations of striped bass.

Save A Million Bass is working to promote awareness of new species regulations and the best catch and release practices – all in order to reduce the mortality rate of stripers. It was both inspiring and heartwarming to sit in the discussion that night, alongside other traveling anglers, and realize thanks to them and others like them how much important conservation work is being done every day that often doesn’t receive attention.
