In her book Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman: Conservation Heroes of the American Heartland, author Miriam Horn takes a refreshing look at the relationship five separate conservationists in America’s Heartland have with nature. Whether restoring America’s grasslands, wildlife, soil, rivers, wetlands, or oceans, there are unsung environmentalists whose conservation work goes mostly unnoticed.
Horn takes readers on a journey down the Mississippi River and introduces some of these little-known conservationists including a Montana rancher, a Kansas farmer, a Mississippi riverman, a Louisiana shrimper, and a Gulf fisherman, and offers insights into how each protects their important resources.
Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman has also been made in to a documentary that premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
