Three Decades of Restoration: A Legacy of Healthier Watersheds

New channel and floodplain construction going to ground on a Trout Headwaters project October 2026. With vegetation grown-in and once planted with trees and shrubs, this formerly degraded ditch will again add real ecological value to the property - and improved water quality for all those downstream.

For more than three decades, Trout Headwaters, Inc. (THI) has worked across the United States to restore damaged watersheds, revitalize rivers and streams, and bring degraded wetlands back to life. Since our founding in 1995, our mission has remained remarkably consistent: helping nature recover while delivering lasting value to the landowners, communities, and ecosystems we serve.

With more than 550 projects spanning over 30 states, THI has had the privilege of working in some of America's most remarkable landscapes. From mountain streams and western ranchlands to eastern wetlands, agricultural watersheds, and coastal ecosystems, each project has presented unique challenges and opportunities.

Along the way, we've witnessed firsthand the extraordinary resilience of natural systems. Eroding riverbanks can become thriving riparian corridors. Degraded wetlands can once again support diverse wildlife. Damaged streams can recover their ecological function, beauty, and productivity.

Our philosophy has always emphasized working with nature rather than against it. By combining sound science, innovative technologies, practical engineering, and decades of field experience, we've demonstrated that ecological restoration can be both environmentally effective and economically sensible.

Perhaps our greatest satisfaction comes from revisiting projects years later and seeing healthy, functioning ecosystems continuing to flourish.

As we reflect on our history, we're especially grateful to the hundreds of clients, employees, and professional partners who have made this work possible.

Looking ahead, our commitment remains unchanged: restoring America's watersheds, one successful project at a time, and leaving our natural world better than we found it.
