Talk about sustainability…and Your Family’s Legacy

November 30, 2016

taraowlOne family decided the best way to save a vast expanse of the precious Mississippi Delta was to create a conservation mecca known as Tara Wildlife. While most of the 9,000 acres had been in her family for several generations, it was the dedicated conservationist Maggie Bryant who initiated a unique partnership committed to sustainable resource management to protect some of the richest habitat you will ever see.

Along the way to building this sustainability template, some wonderful things happened. Selective harvests of bottomland hardwood forests were used to carefully manage deer and turkey hunting while activities like as birding and wildlife watching and photography, hiking, canoeing and youth camps all flourished. Then a very special conversation started and Tara became a conservation idea incubator.  It now hosts an annual conversation dubbed Tara Talks that draws leading conservation experts, activists, and thought leaders to discuss topics critical to world conservation.

Tara Wildlife Founding Board Member Carey Crane says: “Tara Talks is a wonderful occasion to bring leading minds in the conservation field together and helps ensures that the Tara legacy will continue for generations to come.”
