This World Water Day Make a Lasting Investment

March 22, 2016

Today is World Water Day – a day when people across the World observe the power to make a meaningful difference in the future of our most vital renewable resource.

Trout18World Water Day is an opportunity for us all to learn more about water issues and to take real action to make a difference. World Water Day originated in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was first recommended. The United Nations General Assembly then responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day and it has been held annually since.

As many focus on the relationship of water to our jobs, communities and economy, we hope you’ll take time this year to think about those resources in your own backyard.  While many think that streams, rivers or wetlands on private property only benefit the private owner, those water resources clearly provide public values by filtering, storing, cleaning and transporting water.

This year on World Water Day, give yourself, your loved ones, and the planet a sustainable aquatic restoration project.  Restored streams and wetlands are investments that keep on giving: improved recreational use, increased aesthetics, high-value wildlife habitat, reductions in carbon, and endless hours of peace and serenity.
