A study published in the journal Fisheries, reports that anglers in search of trout will spend more time driving and less time fishing as warmer air temperatures reduce access to available cold water habitats. Building on research done at Penn State University, new modeling shows that anglers pursuing brook trout within their historic range from Maine to Georgia will see fewer opportunities within diminishing habitat. “Climate change is expected to result in widespread changes in species distributions for freshwater fish species. Although anglers and other resource users could be greatly affected by these predicted changes, changes are rarely reported in ways that can be easily understood by the general public,” according to research scientist Tyler Wagner.
