This year Job Corps students have been hard at work with natural resource training and projects on national forests. One of the programs that Jobs Corps students piloted was the Waders in the Water aquatic restoration training and certification program.
Students at Job Corps centers on both the coasts in the U.S. completed the training and earned the industry-recognized certification that has been praised by leaders of the restoration industry.
Speaking about the Waders in the Water program, Tina Terrell, National Director Job Corps said: “It involves youth corps nationwide and young people will receive training and certification for climate-ready aquatic restoration. Graduates of the Waders in the Water training program will be skilled in aquatic safety, knowledge about installation techniques, and ready to provide business and government reliable restoration on streams, rivers and wetlands across the United States.”
Terrell also believes: “The time is now for the Job Corps program to regain momentum to develop and enhance the conservation mission that was the foundation of the Job Corps program in the 1960s. As the Forest Service improves the management and operation of all Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers, we look to expand and develop jobs for students in conservation, preservation, and partnerships in the green industry.”
Join the growing number of conservation corps across the U.S. who are training and certify their members to start them on the path to employment in the $10 billion ecological restoration economy.
