Trout Headwaters meets with Natural Resource Investment Center Officials

March 9, 2016

Washington, DC – March 9, 2016 – Trout Headwaters, Inc. (THI) CEO Michael Sprague met Monday with the Natural Resource Investment Center’s (NRIC) Executive Director Jeffrey Klein and his team from the Department of Interior, in Washington.

Klein is directing the build-out of the newly-formed NRIC, whose mission is to spur partnerships with the private sector to restore damaged natural resources.  U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Interior Michael Connor announced that day that the Department tapped business leader Klein to lead NRIC as its first executive director. He is charged with fostering partnerships with the private sector to develop creative financing opportunities that support economic development goals while advancing the Department’s resource stewardship mission.

The new Center’s focus on innovative ideas and private financing options for projects to conserve water resources and protect species habitat comes as government agencies face ever-tightening budgets and growing environmental challenges.  “Like Secretary Jewell and the folks at NRIC, I’m confident that the private sector can play an increasingly pivotal role in meaningful resource restoration and conservation,” Sprague said.  “Leveraging the expanding ecological restoration industry will certainly result in more projects going to ground – the place where our planet measures our environmental progress.”
