For these past nearly three decades, one of the most gratifying things we’ve witnessed here at Trout Headwaters is how willing nature is to forgive her mistreatment. If we simply take away the things that are impacting or damaging our most vital natural resources, and provide just a little help, nature will heal and regenerate, once again providing her miraculous and irreplaceable life support services.
These ecosystem services like freshwater filtration, air filtration, oxygen production, carbon dioxide absorption, temperature regulation, floodwater control, groundwater storage, fertile soils, and food and cover for fish and wildlife – all a benefits of nature.
At THI we focus on restoring and protecting freshwater resources. And, while the magnitude of the problems facing our freshwater resources may at moments seem overwhelming, each sustainable project that renews and restores healthy floodplain function, even for a portion of a stream, makes a difference. Only one inch of rain falling on one acre represents 27,154 gallons of water. One inch of rain falling on one square mile (640 acres) represents 17.38 million gallons of water to be naturally filtered, conveyed and stored. Think of this effect over an entire restored watershed.
Lush, healthy riparian areas are some of the most important ecosystems on Earth, and renewal and repair of these systems has multiple benefits for biodiversity, water quality, and water quantity. Real ecological function relies on these intact, healthy ecosystems.
Progress is being made, and new opportunities abound for those interested in preserving and restoring these shared resources. Contact us today with questions about your pond, stream, river or wetland project info@troutheadwaters.com
