Chris Hunter writes this week from Montana of the collapse of the pallid sturgeon and what may be end for the species. With their remaining population estimated at only about 200 fish, a recent push for a $60 million concrete dam project in some of their only remaining habitat along the lower Yellowstone River seems wholly paradoxical. This ancient fish can grow to six feet and weigh as much as 80 pounds. They have managed to survive since the time of the dinosaurs, with fossils dating back some 70 million years.
