Pesticides Found in Half of U.S. Streams Sampled

September 3, 2015

Pesticides may be present in half of all U.S. Streams according to recent sampling by the U.S. Geological Survey.  The Neonicotinoid pesticides are a relatively new class of insecticides that share a common mode of action that affect the central nervous system of insects, resulting in paralysis and death. They include imidacloprid, acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, nithiazine, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam.  The national study was conducted from 2011 to 2014 and published in August by the USGS.  >Read Abstract or See Full Study
