Damming the Susitna River?

October 18, 2015

Copyright THI2015/Talkeetna AKAt an estimated cost of more than $5 Billion, a dam proposed on the Susitna River north of Talkeetna, Alaska would become the second tallest dam in the U.S. Engineered to span the full width of this pristine resource, the 735 foot tall structure would destroy natural flows on one of the largest remaining free flowing rivers in America.  If built, the dam would create a 42-mile long reservoir, flooding some 40,000 acres and would have significant impacts on five species of salmon, caribou, bear, tourism, fisheries and hunting businesses in the region.  >Read More via www.savethesusitna.org
